Occupied house
Drama, mystery, by Federico Mattioni, Italy, 2021.
A large room, a lonely pianist, a mysterious presence and the world outside, within lonely streets, around a swimming pool, along a river, still her, still her.
Empty memories of a love story. An assiduous game of mirrors awaits the man, when a strange woman knocking on his door will be too much like the soul that dwells in his house. A few dense scenes mark the time, once enclosed in the temple of dreams, over about 77 hours magically suspended between illusion and truth, according to a stylistic figure constantly poised between real and surreal.
A poetic work with a linearly intelligible structure that refers to the imagery of gothic-romantic films, of life beyond death and of love beyond any concrete obstacle to living, with its indissoluble mystery and the transience of earthly love at its center. , the sense of belonging to one's home and the desire to escape from the tormenting memories of the past that still bind you to the present, to your home, to your spaces, and which do not allow you to evolve that much, because something has remained pending with that past and with that tender love. A sentimental thriller built like a throbbing love ballad, amidst dark situations and dazzling flashes of light. A game of mirrors where the theme of the double, from the middle of the film, messes up the emotional coordinates at play.
