The Twilight Hour

The Twilight Hour

Documentary, horror, by Jason Figgis, Ireland, 2003.
Throughout history, mankind has told stories of ghosts and supernatural presences. In The Twilight Hour, renowned photographer of the fantastic and supernatural Sir Simon Marsden embarks on a journey into the darkest and most unsettling corners of Ireland, among ancient Celtic ruins, abandoned castles, haunted houses and places steeped in centuries-old legends. From the accounts of Sir John Leslie at Castle Leslie to one of the houses considered among the most haunted in Ireland and the mysterious Hill of the Witch in County Meath, Marsden explores a landscape where the boundary between reality and the supernatural seems to dissolve.

Nominated for two Irish Film and Television Academy Awards, The Twilight Hour is an evocative documentary that intertwines folklore, history and the paranormal through Simon Marsden’s personal perspective, as he shares not only his extraordinary wealth of stories and legends, but also his deepest fears. Castles marked by tragic events, abandoned mausoleums, standing stones and ancient ruins become traces of a past still inhabited by unsettling presences. Adding to the Gothic atmosphere is the voice of actor John Hurt, who performs passages from Edgar Allan Poe. A journey into Ireland at its most mysterious and spectral, where light and darkness, reality and imagination meet in a fascinating exploration of the invisible world.
