Sci-fi, by Stanley Kubrick, United States, 1968.
A science fiction colossal set in the near future, it touches on themes such as the identity of human nature, its destiny, the role of knowledge and technology. Based on the 1948 short story Arthur Clarke's Sentinel. The film is considered a masterpiece of cinema history and constitutes an epochal turning point, even outside the science fiction genre. The film consists of four distinct, yet interconnected sections by the monolith theme, plus an opening sequence and an intermission. The first and fourth segments are completely devoid of dialogue, as are the second and third ones, leaving long sequences that are mastered by the music and the sound effects track.
