A small village overlooks the valley of the Oglio River, once situated on the border between the Republic of Venice and the Duchy of Milan. Its name is Barco, and it is itself overlooked by the castle of a branch of the powerful Martinengo family, who ruled the “County in the Mist” for centuries. Sponsored by the Province of Brescia, this documentary by Mario Bonetti and Giovanni Zanotti takes viewers on a journey back in time, exploring the splendour of an ancient county and the decline of peasant civilisation. It tells the story of a magical Italian village, from its origins and history to its art, present and future. Through the voices of those who have lived there, unique and moving stories emerge, bringing back memories of a world that no longer exists.
