The Year of the Dog

The Year of the Dog

Thriller, by Jeremy Johnson, United States, 2019.
A lonely man, perhaps mentally disturbed, begins to compulsively follow and photograph a beautiful young woman. He discovers that he is a prostitute and sees her seduce a man on the streets of Los Angeles and take him home. The woman becomes her obsession with her, until one day, while she is out and about in Chinatown during the Chinese New Year celebrations, she decides to pick the lock on her house and enter to snoop.

A visionary and surrealist short film, with spectacular photography full of acid colors and neon lights, which creates a totally unreal atmosphere. Well acted by the two leading actors, it is a film that gives a nod to the style of David Lynch and in some moments makes one think of the existential loneliness of Travis in Taxi Driver. The protagonist is an outcast who meets a mysterious woman, but that seems like a mystery film and erotic obsession, it completely changes course in the final, in a rather shocking climax.
